Abstract
Background: Multiple surgical subspecialties have acknowledged the potential advantages of platelet-rich concentrates. Ophthalmology, neurology, general surgery, orthopedics, and sports medicine are just a few of the specialties that have reported success using them. Many medical fields have shown success with using platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) to hasten healing, stop bleeding, and prevent synechia.
Aim and Objectives: The goals of this study were to objectively examine the mucosal healing process post-ESS using endoscopic evaluation and to subjectively assess healing and hemostasis using patient reports.
Patients and methods: This was a prospective randomized study carried out on 30 patients with nasal polyposis who attended the outpatient clinic of the otorhinolaryngology department at Al-Azhar University Hospitals.
Results: The mean age of participants was 29.6 years. Most of them were female, 56.7%. CRSwNP was the most frequent type of nasal polyp. 2 weeks postoperative; it showed significantly lower pain scores in the PRF group than in the contralateral group. Also, with significant edema and discharge, a one-month postoperative period showed significantly lower pain scores in the PRF group than in the contralateral group. Also, with significant edema.
Conclusion: Using PRF after endoscopic sinus surgery (ESS) is a quick, uncomplicated, and inexpensive way to reduce synechiae, crust, and edema. Because it reduces postoperative pain and bleeding, it also improves postoperative quality of life.
