Abstract
Background: An exact assessment of gestational age (GA) is critical to the antepartum care & managing capabilities of an obstetrician. An accurate estimate of GA is essential for ensuring high-quality maternity care, including fetal growth evaluation & delivery date scheduling.
Objectives: To assess the gestational age of healthy pregnant women during the third trimester compare Trans cerebellar diameter precision with the traditional parameters of biparietal diameter & femur length.
Patients and methods: The cross-sectional study was carried out on a group of 200 pregnant women during their third trimester; they came to El-Galaa Teaching Hospital's Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology. This research was performed from May 2022 to September 2023.
Results: There was statistically significant variance among femur length (FL) & trans cerebellar diameter(TCD) in the estimation of GA within three days. There was a statistically significant variance among TCD & left and right kidney & between BPD and FL in the estimation of GA within one week. There was a highly statistically significant variance between TCD & BPD in the estimation of GA within one week.
Conclusion: A reliable single parameter for determining GA during pregnancy in its third trimester is the TCD. When it is hard to obtain other well-established biometric indices, TCD proves to be an extremely valuable tool.
