Abstract
Background: Gastritis, peptic ulcers, and stomach cancer are just a few of the gastrointestinal disorders that Helicobacter pylori is known to cause. Alternative medicines are now required due to the issues posed by the rising prevalence of antibiotic resistance to conventional treatment regimens.
Objective: In order to eradicate H. pylori, this study compared the efficacy of vonoprazan-based therapy and conventional triple therapy, especially in areas with significant antibiotic resistance.
Methods: A prospective randomized case-control study was conducted on 60 symptomatic patients confirmed to have H. pylori infection through endoscopy and biopsy. Patients were randomized into two groups: one received traditional triple therapy (clarithromycin, amoxicillin, and esomeprazole), and the other received vonoprazan-based therapy (clarithromycin, amoxicillin, and vonoprazan). Four weeks following the end of therapy, a stool antigen test was used to establish the primary result, which was the eradication rate.
Results: The vonoprazan-based therapy group showed a significantly higher eradication rate (94.4%) compared to the traditional triple therapy group (44.4%).
Conclusion: Vonoprazan-based therapy is more effective at eliminating H. pylori than conventional triple therapy, making it a viable substitute, particularly in regions where antibiotic resistance is prevalent.
