Abstract
Introduction: Incomplete cholecystectomy would lead to the development of gallstones, which need to be treated surgically. Stones have been detected many years after LC, a good indication of open cholecystectomy. Many of those patients have been misdiagnosed for a long time. Increased suspicion is needed to diagnose such cases. US, MRI, and ERCP would confirm the diagnosis.
Aim: To assess the feasibility and safety of laparoscopic management of post-cholecystectomy complications, irrespective of whether the original surgery was performed laparoscopically or via open techniques.
Patients and methods: Between 2021 and 2023, we managed six patients with CBD stones and gall bladder remnant stones post lap and open cholecystectomies. All were treated successfully with laparoscopy.
Results The mean time of presentation was 61 months, the mean time of surgery was 100.4 minutes, the postoperative stay was 2 to 3 days, and everything went uneventfully.
Conclusion Post-cholecystectomy (open-lap) problems can be sorted out laparoscopically if done by experienced surgeons.
