Abstract
Background: The posterior cranial fossa contains the cerebellum of most of the rear brain. The fourth ventricle divides it from the pons and medulla, which are located dorsal to each other. The tentorium cerebelli, a flap of dura mater, divides the cerebellum from the cerebrum.
Aim and objectives: To evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of biparietal diameter and femur length based on the last menstrual period (LMP) vs trans cerebellar diameter (TCD) measurement in estimating the gestational age (GA) throughout the second and third trimesters of pregnancy.
Patients and methods: This study included 210 pregnant women recruited from El-Hussein University Hospital's Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Patients who attended the outpatient clinic for routine ultrasounds and antenatal care were also included.
Results: Between 21 and 29 weeks, there was a statistically significant difference in BPD, FL, and TCD accuracy. mean TCD (Cm) was 2.47±0.463 with range of 1.54-3.39, mean FL (Cm) was 4.18±1.088 with a range of 2.01-6.36, mean BPD (Cm) was 5.76±1.025 with range 3.71-7.81
Conclusion: According to our findings, TCD is a more accurate measurement for identifying GA in the third trimester of pregnancy and a dependable single parameter for determining GA in that trimester.
