Abstract

Background: Ultrasonography is a useful method for determining the status of early pregnancy.First trimester sonography is useful for dating, assessing a number of gestation, establishing location, and even detecting some early Malformation. In addition to documenting normal development, ultrasonography has high sensitivity for showing abnormalities of the gestional sac, yolk sac, and embryo that predict poor Outcome. Aim of the Study: To examine whether yolk sac diameter, gestional sac diameter and early embryonic heart rate (EHR) could serve as prognostic factors in evaluating pregnancy outcome. Patients and methods: This prospective cohort study that carried out on 200 patients in outpatient clinic of obstetrics and gynecology department Al-Azhar University hospitals, in uncomplicated singleton pregnancy during period from January 2021 to June 2021. Results: The mean value of yolk sac diameter in ongoing pregnancy group at 6 week was (2.28+1362 mm) comparring to (1.76+0.652 mm) in miscarring group. Abnormalities of the yolk sac size and shape can be used as agood predictive indicator of early pregnancy loss. The mean value of gestational sac diameter at 6 week in ongoing pregnancy (15.73+1.98 mm) compared to (13.86+1.96 mm) in miscarring group. The mean value of embryonic heart rate at 6 week in ongoing pregnancy group was (l17.14+8.28) compared to (88.80+15.41) in miscarring group. Conclusion: The information obtained by first trimester vaginal ultrasound may be used to assess pregnancies that are complicated by previous bad obstetric history.
